About

Affect Magazine is a meeting place for employers, employees and academics to discuss, learn and change the current state of mental health awareness in the workplace. Affect was created to remove the stigma against and portray a positive image of mental health through telling real, human stories. We want to show the world that people are not defined by their mental illness.

How can you AFFECT change?

Created and developed by three journalism students at Centennial College.

Bria John

"I get by with a little help from my friends"

- The Beatles

Through this process I learned that there are solutions, or at least ways to alleviate some of the silence around suffering. And people are interested in exploring those changes. A healthier workforce is possible within my lifetime.

Shelby Morton

"A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing"

- George Bernard Shaw

This process has shown me that a lot more people care about this issue than I had anticipated. Empathy and compassion is alive and well.

Tara Fortune

"Hard work is important, but make sure you're having fun while doing it "

What I've learned through this process is that even though mental health is a dense subject, so many people are willing to talk about it. I've learned that the stigma around mental illness is slowly dying, and that's a great thing.
